LDA Services performed surveys of the distribution system for the Strawberry Plains booster station facility for Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB). This task included providing desired redundancy to several booster stations and a pressure zone, improving fire flow at Midway Business Park and maintaining desirable service pressures in this portion of the KUB service area.
The Strawberry Plains booster station facility and transmission main design include surveying county roadways and private property; easement preparation for pipe routing, booster station and pressure monitor sites; and design of a new water transmission main and other distribution piping. Technical drafting includes plan and profile drawings developed in Civil 3D from survey data collection. The total project area was approximately 8 acres. This project also included Board of Zoning Appeals coordination for rezoning and private property easement acquisitions.
The survey on this project was performed using GPS and Total Station for plants, boundary and topographical surveys, a wetland and right-of-way; and private property staking. The project includes approximately 9,620 linear feet of 24-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP) water transmission main; approximately 935 linear feet of 8-inch water line; approximately 5,250 linear feet of 1- to 2-inch water line via dig and lay; and directional bore installation methods.
By redesigning with both infrastructure and public use in mind, LDA created a beautifully functional park, environmentally improved the stream and 7-square-mile drainage area and paved the way for surrounding economic growth.
